Today I am taking the opportunity to do a product review that I have promised you guys for a while now. A couple of weeks ago, the company Wayfare sent me some of their new vegan cheese, which is so aptly named We Can’t Say It’s Cheese. I received four different flavors to sample and slowly made my way through each one in delight at how cheese-like they really were.

Here is a review of each one:
Cheddar-Style Spread: Yum. Of all four flavors, this was my favorite one. Straight out of the container, the texture was thick and spreadable, and it melted beautifully when heated. To me, it tasted almost exactly like Velveeta cheese, and it was amazing to use in a grilled cheese sandwich. Check out the gooey, melty goodness.

Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style Spread: Okay, this was delicious on crackers, straight out of the container, and on bagels. It had basically the same texture as the cheddar spread, with a nice smoky flavor. I would recommend this to vegan cheese skeptics for sure.

Cheddar Style Dip: My first impression of this dip was that it was way too salty. That being said, I would not use this as a dip, but as more of a sauce. I ended up mixing it into some spaghetti and felt like I was eating real macaroni and cheese. It seems the dip worked better melted like this because it wasn’t salty at all in mac’ n cheese form.

Mexi Cheddar Style Dip: Also way too salty out of the container, but once melted it turned into a luscious sauce that would be perfect for drizzling over nachos, enchiladas, potatoes, and beans. I actually poured it over some fries (sorry, no picture!) and it was a delicious treat.
Overall, I really enjoyed this new vegan cheese. It is a great replacement for cheddar-like spreads and sauces, and I would definitely purchase it the future.
Aside from the taste, one of the most impressive things about We Can’t Say It’s Cheese is the ingredient list. I just love that they don’t use artifical flavorings or partially hydrogenated oils like some other brands I have seen. From the Wayfare website, here is some more information about the ingredients:

I would never have thought to make cheese using oatmeal as a main ingredient, but it certainly makes sense. All of the flavors are soy and wheat free, so even people with dietary restrictions can enjoy them. Thanks Wayfare! Now someone needs to create a vegan provolone cheese and my life will be complete.

That mac n’ cheese looks DELISH!!!
Thanks for the review and we’re glad you enjoyed it! Provolone ehh? We’ll get right on it!

Oh, I’m dying to try this stuff! Thanks for the review, I was so curious and not finding much info on it. I sure wish I could get them locally…
One of the reasons I haven’t been able to attempt being a Vegan is going without cheese. Everything is better with cheese. This makes it look a lot easier! I just visited their website and requested some products. It’ll be great to give them a try and then talk about it on the blog like you have. I love finding other blogs that discuss healthy options and make it seem doable. I’m adding you to my “must read” list of blogs.
That cheese looks awesome! I have never heard of this company before but I am always on the look out for new vegan cheeses. Thanks for the review!
I will have to check those out. I’ve tried other vegan cheeses before and haven’t been that satisfied. I’m not 100% vegan, so I still partake in real cheese from time to time. I would like to find a not cheese that tastes like cheese alternative. Thanks for the review!
I just found this at the Sacramento Co-op. I’ve never heard of it before, but I bought some to try (the hickory flavored). Absolutely AMAZING!! Tastes better than melted daiya!!! It’s great!!
