As a vegan you cannot consume any animal items, so no milk, cheese, honey, and so on. It is hard to do and to be honest I would not want to attempt since it is this kind of a challenge sometimes to come across decent meals to consume! I am a vegetarian and thats challenging adequate…
Some rewards might possibly be an enhance in fiber consumption, so far superior digestive wellbeing is a single feasible perk.

Hi! I’ve been vegan a year and a half, and I have to be honest: it’s NOT hard. Vegan food is easy to prepare, and unbelievably delicious.
Being vegan isn’t just good for the animals… it supports your health, environmental health, and social justice.
I don’t mean to sound like an elitist here, but if you really wanna learn about veganism, talk to VEGANS. There’s an awesome vegan food forum on ThePPK.com, and there’s hundreds of friendly goofy vegans there who can answer any and all questions you have about living the vegan life.
Best of luck to you!

Unless you find consuming animal byproducts to be immoral or intensely repulsive, i say you should try to be a vegetarian or just stay omnivorous. Going vegan can be very dangerous to your health and can have long lasting effects. my neighbor says she went vegan but regrets it now because she is a bit underweight. She also told me about how hard it is to stay vegan for a long time because there isn’t too much to eat that isn’t vegan. So unless you can stick to veggies and soymilk the rest of your life, and hardly ever eat out, stick to the diet you are currently enjoying, or become vegetarian. Becoming vegetarian is much easier, and there are a ton more eating options for you. Don’t let your friend pressure you into it –it’s just what’s best for you so it should be your decision.

Being vegan means you do not consume or use any animal-based products at all.
The most major, obvious part of this is not eating any meat, dairy, eggs, or meat by-products (like broth, gelatin, or milk proteins). In addition, vegans do not wear fur or leather, or use things such as cosmetics that have been created from animal products (like musk) or tested on animals. Many people argue that honey is also non-vegan, because it is produced by bees and is therefore an animal product.
Some people choose only to avoid consuming meat and animal products, and are not as concerned with other aspects of their lifestyle. These people would be better described as “strict vegetarians”, or “following a vegan diet”, rather than vegan. True veganism is really a whole lifestyle choice and not just a diet.
Most vegans would probably say that the main benefit of their lifestyle is preventing cruelty to animals. Aside from this reasoning, another benefit of the vegan lifestyle is for the environment. Raising animals for human use takes up a lot more land and resources, and causes a lot more pollution, than raising plants does.
The vegan diet itself also has many health advantages. Animal products contain saturated fat and cholesterol, which are bad for heart health. Many animal products also tend to be higher in calories and overall fat content than plant-based substitutes. In particular, consumption of red meat is shown to raise the risk of heart disease and colorectal cancer, while a diet that is lower in animal products and higher in whole grains, fruits and vegetables actually lowers the risk. In addition, some animal products are made with additives that may carry health risks, such as growth hormones and antibiotics, and many diseases such as Creutzfeld-Jacob (“mad cow”) disease and salmonella can only be transmitted to humans through animal products.
So long as you eat a balanced diet, with a variety of plant-based proteins from grains and legumes; good fats from foods like olive oil and soy; and foods that are high in iron such as spinach, raisins, and whole wheat, veganism carries next to no health risk. Certainly not enough to outweigh the benefits. However, if you are a person who has trouble being careful with your diet and doesn’t enjoy a variety of healthy foods, veganism may not be a good choice for you, and you might be better off with an ovo-lacto vegetarian (no meat, but eggs and dairy are okay) or pescetarian (no meat except fish and seafood) diet, both of which offer many of the same health benefits as veganism.

Vegetarians can eat dairy and eggs. You should look into that industry and decide if you want to support it or not. If you are against animal cruelty, you might want to stay away from those…but you can start out slow.
Here are some other reasons to go veg. Environmental reasons, cows eat so much pesticides and hormones and antibiotics that their feces is seriously toxic, it’s polluting the water….cows drink so much more water then humans do, and frankly out water supply is limited. Cows give off an awful lot of greenhouse gases. They are destroying the the rainforest to grow crops to feed the cows, most of which are for fast food restaurants….and for ever pound of meat, that cow had to eat 11-13 pounds of grain, which means if those cows were not eating that food, we could pretty much solve world hunger.
What made me stop and think is what am I supporting ultimately. By buying a hamburger from McDonald’s, I am using up all kinds of oil for shipping, I am supporting suffering, I am destroying the rainforest and I am eating total crap.
Health wise, I’ve never felt better. I loved being a vegetarian, so much so that I am now vegan.
You should try it out for a month and see how you feel.
The recipe for success? Do some research, find out what has lots of protein, how to cook it….make sure that your diet is balanced. Be healthy
and good luck, I hope you feel as great as I do.

If you want to be vegan you should do it for your own reasons, not simply because your friend wants you to do it with her. You need to have your own motivation (though it is nice to have a friend) otherwise it will be very difficult to maintain. other benifits include helping the environment, better health, longer life, and saving the animals. some vegetarians eat and drink dairy some dont. vegans most definitely do not eat or drink dairy. go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism
Good luck. I hope you succeed. =0)
